Aleph One

The logical continuation of yesterdays post felt like Aleph One. Aleph One is not a data set, but instead a Free engine to be used with the original data of the Marathon games, released in the early 90:s. Aleph One brings several improvements over the original, like free mouselook and support for higher resolutions. It also has support for online play for up to 8 players, both vs and co-op. All three original games are available for download, and there are also several mods, maps and total conversions to play.

Edit: Actually the original Marathon had free mouse look, and according to Wikipedia it was among the first, if not the first. Thanks to DEVS for informing me. :)

Texture filtering makes this retro game look rather smooth and sharp.

  1. Actually the original Marathon did have free mouse look to begin with... in fact it invented it! From Wikipedia:

"The next major step was using the mouse to control the free look. Marathon by Bungie, released in December 1994 for the Apple Macintosh was the first major release to feature the mouse-controlled free look that would later become universal."

  2. Cool! I had no idea! I thought I had read that it was an added feature when I played Aleph One a some time ago, but I guess I just assumed that since I didn't think games had that feature back then. :)

Thanks for your comment! I'll update the post. :)
