Meridian 59
Quite a while ago I covered Open Meridian, a new client for the classic MMORPG Meridian 59. It's source has been available for a while, and just now I noticed the original version of the game is also available to play, completely free. So if you want to rediscover this classic medieval fantasy adventure, complete with both co-operative and player-vs-player gameplay, you can get Meridian 59 from here.

Isleward
Isleward is a moddable multiplayer roguelike. It combines elements from roguelikes such as permadeath and randomly generated worlds, with elements from mmo-games like social and tactical interaction, all playable online. It looks like a lot of work has gone into it and it has a very interesting minimalist art style. Read more about it here!

Stendhal - 1.22
Looking for a bit of christmas spirit and holiday feeling? The latest release of mmorpg Stendhal decorates the game with wintery feeling to match the season. There is even a new christmas song. :)

There is even presents and a christmas stocking. I wonder if there is equipment in it? |

Eternal Lands
Eternal Lands is a long-running MMORPG with a lot of features and content. Rather unique is the fact that there are no classes - every character can learn every skill if they make time for it. Eternal Lands is very polished and while the graphics aren't exactly modern they are very well made and suit the game perfectly. Updates seem to come now and then too and the community is described as friendly, so why not give it a try?

Stendhal
Stendhal is an MMORPG, based on the Arianne framwork. It is a complete game, filled with towns, dungeons, NPC:s and lots of quests. And the game can be played both in-browser or as a traditional download. Clean 2D graphics and a steady stream of updates are other arguments to try this game.

The world has over 250 NPC:s to interact with, and hopefully at least as many human players. |

Open Meridian
Meridian 59 was among the first, of the the first, 3D online mmorpg. Originally released 1996, it is still playable, but now in the form of a Free version called Open Meridian. Based on the original data-files, but with an open engine, the project allows playing the "Meridian 59: Community Edition" - A complete modern version of the classic game. The page describes the game as having a lot less "holding hands" compared to modern mmorpg:s, and there seem to be skills to build, guilds to join and players to ally or anger. Certainly something different if you're looking for a new online RPG to play!

Not exactly modern, but it doesn't look bad by any means. |
